Launched in 2008, ProPublica produces national and international investigative journalism. It is funded through multiple foundations, including organizations such as the Knight Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and Atlantic Philanthropies. One of its chief funders is the Sandler Foundation, whose president is the chairman of the ProPublica board. ProPublica has received many national journalism awards, including two Pulitizer prizes. Since period of PEJ’s analysis, ProPublica’s reporting staff has grown to 34.
