Statehouse News Online
Statehouse News Online is a “collection of independent journalists covering state-specific and local government activity,” according to its website. It was launched in 2010 by the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity. The Franklin Center seeks to “investigate and inform the public about waste, fraud, abuse, ethical questions and safety concerns involving the use of taxpayer dollars,” and was launched with the help of the Sam Adams Alliance, a free-market think tank. Many of the sites and journalists that belong to the Statehouse News Online network are funded by various state-level policy think tanks. Note: staffing figure below refers to average number of editors and reporters at all Statehouse News Online sites studied by PEJ.
