Launched in 2009, Texas Watchdog seeks to be on the leading edge of a national trend toward investigative and enterprise journalism taking place on the web and outside the traditional newsroom. The site received start-up funds from the Chicago-based Sam Adams Alliance, a free-market think tank. Its support also comes from individuals and other organizations, as well as partnerships and a journalist training program. In 2009, deputy editor Jennifer Peebles won two awards for her work on an interactive map making Texas lawmakers’ ethics forms available online.
