The Florida Independent
Launched in 2010, the Florida Independent covers public affairs in Florida. It is operated by the American Independent News Network, which “emphasizes the positive role of democratically elected government in securing the common good and social welfare.” The network has been funded by a variety of individuals and foundations, including Open Society Foundations (Open Society Foundations is not currently funding the American Independent News Network). The Florida Independent was established with a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation grant to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
After this analysis was conducted, AINN changed how it organizes web content to better reflect the journalistic nature of stories that were published in its blog sections and thus not counted by PEJ. It has discontinued its blogs, and all of its content is now published in the main news channel.
