The Minnesota Independent

Launched in 2006, the Minnesota Independent covers public affairs in Minnesota. It is operated by the American Independent News Network, which “emphasizes the positive role of democratically elected government in securing the common good and social welfare.” The network is funded by a variety of individuals and foundations, including the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Open Society¬†Foundations (Open Society Foundations is not currently funding the American Independent News Network). The Minnesota Independent has won several Society of Professional Journalists awards.

After this analysis was conducted, AINN changed how it organizes web content to better reflect the journalistic nature of stories that were published in its blog sections and thus not counted by PEJ. It has discontinued its blogs, and all of its content is now published in the main news channel.
