The Watchdog.org sites are, according to the hub website, “a collection of independent journalists covering state-specific and local government activity.” The sites are a project of the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, launched in 2009. The Franklin Center was launched with the help of the Sam Adams Alliance, a free-market think tank. Many members of the Watchdog.org family of sites are supported by other state-based think tanks in addition to the Franklin Center. Note: staffing figure below refers to average number of editors and reporters at all Watchdog.org sites studied by PEJ.
