Launched in 2009, the Virginia Watchdog, also called Old Dominion Watchdog, says it is “dedicated to excellent investigative reporting that promotes responsible state and local government.” The site is a project of the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity. The Franklin Center seeks to “investigate and inform the public about waste, fraud, abuse, ethical questions and safety concerns involving the use of taxpayer dollars,” and was launched with the help of the Sam Adams Alliance, a free-market think tank. Virginia Watchdog has a sister site, Virginia Statehouse News.
